Red rice Pundi Gatti (Rice dumplings). Not making the batter running with more water. So finally after all these alterations, I made these pundi gatti and rewarded with a soft crumbly perfect shaped rice dumplings. I indulged in to each bite dipping in red coconut chutney and sambar.
Its a recipe originated from Udupi Mangalore regions.
I am more fond of the traditional recipes and I make them frequently at home as it comes naturally and doesn't require much effort.

- Prepare 3 cups of red rice or white rice.
- You need 0.25 cup of thick puffed rice or poha.
- It's 3 tsp of coconut oil.
- You need 0.25 cup of shredded coconut.
- It's 2 tsp of mustard seeds.
- You need 1 tsp of Urrad dal.
- It's 1 tsp of Channa dal.
- You need 0.5 tsp of fenugreek seeds.

- You need 1 tsp of jaggery.

- Soak red rice + thick puffed rice in water for 5-7 hours.
- Now blend it in mixer with less water.
- In a pan take oil + mustard seeds + urrad dal + Channa dal + fenugreek seeds + curry leaves + red chilli + cumin seeds and sauté well. Now add blended mixture to it and 0.5 cup water and mix well. Add coconut and coriander leaves..
- Let it cool for around 15 minutes. Now take small portions of it and make round balls. Place it in a container gland steam it(Add water in the base and place a plate on top) for around 15 minutes..
- Serve the steamed pundi with coconut chutney.
The Udupi-Mangalore region of Karnataka is famous for Undi, a seasoned steamed savoury rice dumpling, which is a favoured breakfast. Rice dumplings or Pundi as they are called in Mangalore is usually served with Kori Gassi (Chicken curry). These steamed dumplings are very easy to make and are best served warm.
