- You need 1 teaspoon of salt.
- You need 1/2 teaspoon of asafoetida.
- Prepare 1 cup of dal.
- You need 1 cup of rice.

- Heat the ghee in a frying pan..
- Once hot add a few mustard seeds. Let it crackle!.
- Keep the flame low. Add jeera and turmeric..
- Add the onions, garlic, curry leaves and the asafoetida.
- Stir fry till the onions are golden brown. Add a dash of red chilli powder! Add salt and mix well..
- Take a cup of dal. Wash with water and drain..
- Take a cup of rice. Repeat the procedure..
- Add the dal & rice with the fried onions and garlic to a pressure cooker..
- For each cup of dal add 2 cups of water. For each cup of rice add 1.5 cups of water..
- Stir the mixture well! After about 5-6 whistles on the cooker. The khichri is ready to be served!.
